Research interets covers the future Internet technology and architecture, with a focus on advanced testbeds, digital infrastructures (5G and beyond), AI/ML RAN, large-scale experimentation, and Internet resilience.

He has made pioneering contributions to the architecture, design, deployment, and leadership of federated international research testbeds such as PlanetLab Europe, FIT/OneLab, and SLICES-RI (2017–2023).
IEEE Fellow, ACM Distinguished Scientist, and recipient of the Étoiles de l’Europe Award (2014).

Research Highlights

Federated Research Testbeds for the Internet of the Future
Leader and architect of international large-scale testbeds such as PlanetLab Europe, FIT/OneLab, and SLICES-RI — the first ESFRI research infrastructure in digital sciences.

Pioneer in Quality of Service (QoS)
Developed foundational models for DiffServ and PQCM, establishing new paradigms for service guarantees in IP networks. Co-founder of Qosmos, acquired by ENEA.

Leadership in European Digital Research
Coordinator of over 11 EU-funded projects with combined funding exceeding €200 million. Recipient of the Étoiles de l’Europe Award (2014).

SLICES has been selected for the ESFRI 2021 roadmap. It addresses energy efficiency, sovereignty, security and societal impact through open, cutting-edge facilities.
